This book has
the most awesome tag line. “My partner said he didn’t love me any more. I said
I don’t buy it”.
Our usual reaction
to being rejected is to be upset, hurt, wounded, devastated. This writer can
see that her husband is going through some stuff that actually isn’t about her;
it’s his problem. So she gives him plenty
of space to work it out for himself. That is a small miracle in itself.
Her descriptions of attempting to be the perfect housewife; baking cookies,
bottling jam, making family roasts all with a cheery smile, while he continues
to glower and pout and try to blame her for his mid life crisis are priceless and
hilarious. I tried her tactics with my husband and they worked when I was able
to do it-but I am still in admiration of her strength and courage in the face
of such awfulness-she’s a far cooler cookie than me….
